GEORGEANN's Story

Well fellow classmates, you remember me as George. Now I'm Georgeann, surprise I'm transgendered. My gender issues were very well hidden in my subconscious in the early years and blossomed as year's progressed. Let me bring you up to date. Following graduation many of you knew I attended Tennessee Tech. Things went well for the first few quarters. Being free in the university setting, my gender identity dysphoria (GID) began to surface. The more I dealt with my GID the more my grades suffered. After switching majors for the third time, I decided to go into the military. At the time I didn't realize this is one of the most popular coping mechanism for transgender male to female (M to F) individuals to use to stifle their GID i.e. do something manly. Well I spent 20 years in the Air Force during which time I married and had one son. All this time I continued to keep the woman inside of me hidden. I played the part of being a husband, and father. A couple times I had decided to come out to my family. Once when I retired from the Air Force but my son was just starting high school and we all know how bad peer pressure can be. I didn't want to burden him with my transition, so I decided to wait until he graduated. After he graduated my spouse, Maxine, was diagnosed with primary progressive MS. I spent the next 15 years watching and caring for an otherwise independent self sufficient woman slowly deteriorate to a person completely dependent on a care provider, me. It wasn't until January of 2005; I decided I had to come out. Otherwise I would never know the life I could have had as a woman. To say there are many risks to making such a move is a gross under statement. Loss of family, friends, employment to mention a few. I have been very fortunate. The only family member I lost was my spouse, (which I had already figured). My employer, the Department of Defense, who I have been working for the last 20 years, was very supportive. Although my spouse and I have divorced, we both understand we couldn't have maintained our previous relationship. Maxine was in a managed care facility in Ohio where her family lives....Expand for more
Maxine passed away from complications due to her MS in May of 2009. I'm now in Southern California living my new life. I'm not going to get into the details regarding my transition but I can say I am legally and physically a fully functional woman. My gynecologist didn't realize I was transgender until close examination. As to my spiritual well being, I was raised as a Methodist and attended Andrew Price. When I married, I became a Catholic. I can truthfully say since I've put my inner feeling and outer appearance in sync., I now, for the first time in my life, have a personal relationship with God. I regularly attend a Four Square Church, Hope Chapel of the Valley, and finally I am finding an understanding of the scriptures. The pastor and elders are all aware of my past and the entire congregation is loving and supportive. I am very blessed. As to my career status, while in the Air Force, I received my B.S. degree in Computer Science from Chapman University and my M.S. degree in Systems Management from Western New England University. After I retired from the Air Force, I worked for Northrop on the B-2 bomber as the lead Offensive Avionics instructor. Following that I worked as a federal civil service employee in IT management for the Defense Contract Management Agency. I retired from Federal Civil Service and now am a private contractor with my own company, "Yost Systems Consulting", and contract my services back to the Department of Defense. Please feel free to contact me and we can catch up. News Flash: My Son and daughter-in-law have informed me that I'll become a grandmother the latter part of February next year..."Granny Annie". Aug of 2013 I moved to Glen Ellyn, IL (just outside Chicago) to be with my fiancé, Paul Derezotes. He has retired from being a meteorologist where he did environmental studies for an engineering firm that designed power plants (fossil fuel and nuclear). Currently he keeps busy doing forensic meteorology for PI lawyers and is an adjunct professor at a local college. We were married in April 2014 and are enjoying our life together in Wheaton IL. Sincerely, Georgeann (Annie)

Paul and I went out for our usual morning walk and there are literally hundreds of Long Beach residents out with brooms, dust pans, and garbage bags cleaning up the mess on Pine Street and the Pike Outlet Mall. There is a
Being Transgender is like being Left Handed. Some people are, most people aren't and nobody really knows why. It's not Right or Wrong, its just the way things are.
Been there done that for 20 years!!!
